An Unplanne Adventure

Sreetam Halder

It was 27th of April, and all the natural science students were excited as we had an overnight stay on the island of Fjärdlång.
We started our day by collecting the water samples from three different water bodies. Next, we had dinner at 5.30 p.m. We had pasta with sauce, meat balls  and falafel, which were all very delicious.
The dinner was followed by hiking to the highest point on the island but it was fun since we had a kind of quiz along the way through the woods.
Finally, when we reached to our destination, it was an amazing scenic view, one of the best we’d ever seen. We took some photographs, including group and individual selfies.
But what happened while we were returning from the mountains was a mystery. The 5 of us including one of our professors, got lost in the woods. We took a wrong turn at some point and started heading in the opposite direction. It got pretty dark and we had no idea where to go, despite having GPS.
It was only because of Sachin Sir, our professor, that we had confidence that we could get out of the woods. We thought of calling Arild, and it did help us (thanks to our smartphones). It took Arild just 15 minutes to find us, but it was dark and it took us almost 2 hours to get out of that forest. We were tripped and fell a lot since the rocks were very slippery and we passed from the barbed wires too. At last, we made it back to the house. It was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.
We all were positive about it, as we know life is all about taking the next step. We’d conquered this adventure.
